What is Secret Friend?

Secret Friend is a modern take on Secret Santa for Slack workspaces. It's designed to foster team building and workplace connections through anonymous gift exchanges and fun interactions.

How do I start using Secret Friend?

Getting started is easy:

Click the "Add to Slack" button to install Secret Friend in your workspace
Use the command /secret-friend-start to create a new game
Share the game channel with your team
Wait for participants to join
Start the game when ready!

What commands are available?

/secret-friend-start - Create a new game
/sf-message - Send an anonymous message to your secret friend
/sf-help - Get help with using the app

How many people can participate in a game?

The free plan allows up to 8 users in a single game. For larger teams or multiple concurrent games, check out our Enterprise plan.

The minimum number of participants to start a game is 3 people.

How does the anonymous messaging work?

When you use the /sf-message command, Secret Friend sends your message anonymously through the game channel. Only the organizer knows who sent which message, ensuring privacy while maintaining workplace appropriateness.

Can I run multiple games at once?

The free plan allows one active game at a time. For multiple concurrent games, you'll need the Enterprise plan, which allows unlimited games across multiple workspaces.

How long do games last?

You can set the game duration when creating it. The game will automatically end after the specified duration, at which point participants can try to guess who their Secret Friend was!

What happens when a game ends?

When a game ends:

All participants get a chance to guess who their Secret Friend was
The true identities are revealed
Participants can vote for the Best Secret Friend
The game channel is archived

Is there a way to end a game early?

Yes, game organizers can end a game early using the 'End Game' button in the game channel.

What permissions does Secret Friend need?

Secret Friend needs permissions to:

Create and manage channels for games
Send messages and use slash commands
Send direct messages to participants
Manage pins in game channels
